Julianne Natalie Stingray, or "Jill" as she is known, is the main protagonist and the bartender at VA-11 Hall-A. Half-French. Avid smoker. Bisexual. Went to college. Drinks a lot of beer because of her implant that allows her to drink lots of beer and not get drunk. Has a cat named Fore, whom she talks to every time she's at home. She vaguely recalls having seen someone glitch out like how Anna Graem did in the past, but she doesn't remember when or where.
Jill always tries to give her best at work as a Bartender, talking with her clients and always being nice even with the most annoying people; however, she gets angry when somebody calls her "Julianne" in front of her. She always starts her job saying "Time to mix drinks and change lives" and choosing the songs that play at the Jukebox.
Some say Jill tries to play the "cool bartender" but she always says that she's just being herself and it's not an act. Even if Jill is serious most of the times with her clients, there are moments where she just bursts out laughing, usually with childish jokes. She also tends to hide when she cares about something/someone, as shown when she is flustered when she starts speaking for Fore in front of Dana when they were at Jill's apartment. Apparently, she resembles her grandfather in more ways than one.
In college, she admits that she was too thick-headed and got riled up easily (to a lesser extent now - when she's working as a bartender). Being stressed was her default state. Jill doesn't go out much, as she spends most of her time at home under the kotatsu with her pet cat Fore, or at the Bar. While at home, Jill browses Danger/u/, and the Augmented Eye on her phone (tablet?), and later on in the game; *Kira* Miki's blog and the Nano Camo app that she added on her phone (player can also change music, and load/save files on Jill's phone). In the end, she has a calm childish nature, laughing at the most childish of jokes such as people asking for the drink Bad Touch.
Jill's parents got divorced amicably when she was six. Her mother was a violinist who toured with an orchestra, and consequently spent most of her childhood with her dad, her uncle, and her grandfather. When she was a kid Jill was a huge fan of magical girl series Model Warrior Julianne, in part because she shared a first name with the main character. Often she would dress up and pretend to be the main character, however when she entered middle school she was constantly teased about her love of the show with classmates often humming the theme song at her behind her back. This lead directly to her displeasure at being referred to by her full first name, although she says that it hasn't diminished her love of the show any. While in middle school Jill started wearing all black and got into occultism, even going so far as to write a blog about it under the username "Shadowmaster69." This blog would become an old shame for her later in life and she would do her best to hide it, although Alma manages to track it down.
When she was in school, she would always get high grades despite not putting a lot of effort in. However, once college happened she had to study really hard to get good grades.
Three years ago, Jill had a girlfriend named Lenore. Jill met Lenore at college and helped her during her studies and bonded as friends. When they realised that they both liked each other, they started going out. They both loved each other, and during the time Jill spent with Lenore, Jill became a sister-like figure to Lenore's younger sister, Gaby.
In the moments before she graduated, Jill had a lot of doubts about whether or not the degree she studied for years was right for her and if she wasted her time doing it.
A couple of months after Jill graduated, she received an offer to start working at a big research facility. Lenore was ecstatic, and really proud of her, but Jill hesitated and later, rejected the offer because she didn't know what do from there, but taking that offer was not an option she wished to pursue. Lenore freaked out at this, later confessing that she was jealous of Jill since she never got such an opportunity. Things devolved pretty quickly after that, as Lenore had accepted the job offer on Jill's behalf without letting Jill know beforehand. Jill was furious with her upon hearing this, and with both of them saying one too many unpleasant things, Jill stormed out of Lenore's house, breaking a vase in the process. They haven't spoken since, and thus, they haven't officially broken up (but considering the time they haven't seen each other, Jill calls Lenore her ex-girlfriend). However, because Lenore died from Nanomachine Rejection, it became impossible for Jill and Lenore to make up.
Afterward the fight, Jill applied for a bartender license and wound up working at VA-11 Hall-A.
Lenore was Jill's ex-girlfriend and Gaby's older sister. Jill and Lenore met during their college years and started dating around that time. She died just before the beginning of the game due to localized nanomachine rejection.
Lenore has pale skin and blue eyes. Her hair is short and light brown. She has a burn mark near her left breast, which came from serum shots. She had described it as a birthmark to Jill. She is shown to wear a red shirt. According to Jill, Lenore's butt and breasts were half that of Alma's.
Lenore was very responsible and Gaby trusted her more than their parents. She was very intelligent (being able to hold a conversation about pretty much anything; from video games to sports) and studied constantly. She thought about the future, both her own and others. Lenore was social and had a wide knowledge of different topics and, as previously stated, could talk pretty much about everything. She liked to provoke or prank Jill, for example taking a sip of her unopened beer bottle and leaving Jill confused for the rest of the day. She knew Jill well and liked to boast about it. Jill described her to be a little pushy, since she pushed her into social situations and kept convincing Jill to take the job offer despite her objections, however, Lenore's intentions were usually good.
She was, however, revealed to be jealous of Jill when she was offered a place at a prestigious research institute, and their relationship ended with the both of them saying rather unpleasant things to each other, revealing an unpleasant, if not insignificant, side of her personality.
Lenore started to suffer from localized nanomachine rejection near her heart when she was 18. She had to use serum shots every three days to repel it, yet still had chest pains because of it from time to time. She kept her condition as a secret from everyone for unknown reasons, but Gaby believed it was her not wanting others to worry.
Lenore went to college to study science and became a student-teacher. She met Jill when the latter was halfway through her studies, whom she often helped to study and gave extra credit. The two realized they had feelings for each other and started dating. Their relationship was close and they spent time with each other's families. Jill was the more thick-headed and would get more riled up of the two. Lenore was the calmer of the two and would always be the one to calm Jill down. She would also be the one to push Jill into social situations. She got Jill interested in bartending while talking about the alcohol's different chemical reactions and even suggested that Jill pick up bartending if things went wrong.
Jill got a job offer from a research facility after college graduation. She was not sure if she wanted to accept the offer and rather wanted to put her thoughts in order and think about her life. Lenore however, was excited and thought it would be a good chance and the best for Jill's future.
Lenore was also jealous of Jill, who had gotten a job from her field she studied for while she had never gotten a chance like that. She tried to convince Jill to accept the offer, which the latter did not like. Lenore, thinking of what would be best for Jill, accepted the job offer on her behalf without Jill's knowledge beforehand. Jill was furious over it. The bad timing of Lenore starting to talk about marriage (though she was just teasing Jill with it) got Jill bothered, who felt like Lenore tried to make her life decisions without her permission and wondered if she would make even more of her decisions after marriage.
Jill ended up telling her thoughts to Lenore, which lead them to have a fight. In the end, Jill left Lenore, Jill storming out of Lenore's house, breaking a vase, and never came back. Despite never properly breaking up, they both felt their relationship had come to an end. Lenore regretted her fight with Jill and realized how she should have thought more about Jill's own feelings and wishes instead of her own.
Three years after their break up, Lenore suffered a heart attack due to her nanomachine rejection and died five days later in hospital, on the 17th of December.
Doctors couldn't find the exact reason why she suddenly became vulnerable to it. They believed she might have missed serum shots, shots made her other defenses weaker, her rejection got worse or a change of blood pressure caused the heart attack. It was also possible she first got a heart attack and then the rejection but her cause of death was still listed as a Localized nanomachine rejection.
Lenore's death left Gaby sad and regretful for not knowing about her sister's condition earlier. She started to blame Jill for Lenore's death since her pain got worse after their departure. Lenore sent an apology letter to Jill before her death where she only wrote one word: "Sorry." Jill comments if she wanted to provoke her by it, but Gaby suggests Lenore may have just wanted to be sincere.
Gillian is a bartender at VA-11 Hall-A with a mysterious past. He is known for occasionally disappearing for a few days, but is otherwise a dependable employee at VA-11 Hall-A. Officially, he is known as "Robert", his predecessor at VA-11 Hall-A's name, whose name he took to disguise his true identity. He also hates bell peppers, even when it is mixed in with food as small bits. He lives in a small apartment nearby VA-11 Hall-A that Dana managed to get thanks to the BTC housing program.
Gil has semi-long dark purple hair, thin eyebrows, and stubble. He wears a bartender uniform and often carries a casual attitude even while working.
Gil comes across as matter-of-fact and competent, although he can be taken by surprise. He is closed off even from his coworkers and very protective of his secrets to the point of Dana still being unable to get anything out of him despite knowing him for years. Jill describes him as a loner who can only be provoked into a reaction by teasing. Gil's mood drastically improves after having sex, which others quickly notice based on his facial expressions. Despite that, he is unable to conceal said expressions and even hums a melody. He is uncomfortable with people noticing that he slept with someone, and even more so when Jill prods further and asks for details. He can also be very dramatic; when Dana and Jill temporarily leave the city in the good ending, Gil treats it like they are parting ways forever, despite the two only going on vacation to Panama.
Gil doesn't know where he was born although he does remember an early childhood living in the Arctic. During the Hong Kong riots, he was part of an anti-riot force but defected after stealing supplies. Sometime later, after the death of Robert, he appeared at the door of VA-11 Hall-A in a disheveled and emotional state.
According to Dana, he was severely regretting something he did, although she did not know what. Finding himself without any money, she provided him with free drinks and offered him the position of a bartender, which he accepted. Dana even tries to discover who Gillian is in some parts of the game, like in the Truth or Dare game where she even compares Gil to a picture. He also has some connections to Jamie, a professional assassin. He was also involved with the KGB in the past. However, as the KGB was dissolved in 1991, this may also hint at the possibility that he is older than at first apparent (this would make him about 100 years old). Although that, it is also important to note that the KGB was only officially dissolved in 1991, and it is possible that the KGB was reinstated sometime between 1991 and 207X. It's also known that Gillian was in England and France at some point.
Alma is a tall, blonde female with hazel eyes and fairly tan skin, as well as large breasts. She is mainly seen wearing a maroon ribbed sweater and thin, semi-rounded glasses. While it is not shown often, she has artificial hands, which she chose to receive to avoid Carpal Tunnel Syndrome while hacking. She's only replaced her hands; the arm muscles are still hers (albeit with some enhancements).
Alma tends to be playful and enjoys teasing people. However, she takes family and familial responsibility very seriously. One of the biggest sources of frustration in her life at the moment is that her older sister Dayana is not taking the time to actually raise her children.
Alma started coming to VA-11 Hall-A roughly six months before the start of the game. She was served by Gillian the first time she came around but was served by Jill the second time and felt like Jill just "got her." There are two reasons why Alma decided to get artificial hands. The first is that since she spends lots of time typing, the artificial hands would help her avoid Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. The second reason is that getting artificial hands gives her other utilities; like how she can interface with many devices. For example, there's a tiny computer embedded in her glasses. If she moves her index finger, it acts like the computer's cursor.
Dana Zane, commonly called "Dana" or simply "Boss", is the proprietor of VA-11 Hall-A, and oversees Jill and Gil. Dana has replaced her left arm with a mechanical prosthesis, and refuses to answer questions on when or how she lost her original, as "It's more interesting if it's left a mystery." Her current strength now is such that she could jump up from ground level to rescue Kim, as she fell from the Glitch City rooftops.
Dana is extremely boisterous and has a carefree, devil-may-care attitude most of the time. She has a habit of literally sticking her head in things, such as Sei's helmet, purely because it seems fun. However, she cares very much for those who work under her and will always go to great lengths to keep them safe and well cared for.
Not much is known about where Dana comes from, although it is known that she has a little sister. When she was a toddler she would pick fights with kids bigger than her.
She used to work for the Neo-San Francisco police force after she got caught during a fighting ring. Eventually, Lexi decided to take her in as her partner, who says that Dana was one of the best partners she ever had. They became good colleagues and later on good friends. They were briefly in a romantic relationship but it only lasted for a week or so when Dana got her head caught in a bucket during a date and also because Dana claims that "Lexi is too uptight." The two remained friends afterward.
Apparently Dana has a history in competitive wrestling. Using the alias of "Red Comet" Dana has been said to fight and win against a group of bears without killing them. This event supposedly occurred prior to the loss of her original arm. This previous fighting experience has prepared her to double up as VA-11 Hall-A's bouncer.
Gabrielle is the younger sister of Lenore.
Gabrielle is short in stature with a small bust and fairly pale skin. She has greyish-blue eyes and a usually wears a severe facial expression. Her hair is long and brown and is tied in a sort of ponytail with a red ribbon further down her hair.
She usually wears a red, spotted scarf and a brown coat.
Gaby is initially cold and curt to Jill in their first encounter at VA-11 Hall-A; she doesn't say anything in response to her at first and is somewhat irritated when Jill does not remember who she is. She is also somewhat spiteful and childish, blaming Jill for the death of her sister and lying about Lenore's symptoms getting worse after Jill left, seemingly in an attempt to make her feel more guilty.
Despite this, however, this was likely just a byproduct of the grief caused by her sister's death, along with her still being a teenage girl. After Gaby made up with Jill, she smiled often and enjoyed talking to her for some time, as well as spending the night with her and Alma in one of the games ending's, showing her to be a kind girl at heart, and was simply sad over Lenore's death.
Gabrielle is Lenore's younger sister by over ten years. She was there when Jill was in a relationship with Lenore and Gaby had a younger-sister, older-sister bond with Jill.
*Kira* Miki has extremely pale, white skin, a trait shared by all Lilim seen thus far, as well as long blue hair and red eyes. She is fairly tall and has an extremely large bust, the largest of any female character in the game.
*Kira* Miki has an incredibly cheery and energetic personality, either a benefit of or to her idol career, best seen when she managed to get everyone in the bar, even those not in her conversation, to begin chanting her name. She is also highly appreciative of her fans (although she dislikes the term), referring to the fan club that follows her everywhere as extra security, and is thankful for a certain fan that breaks into her home each week to make her breakfast, despite the fact that they rummage through her panty drawers each time.
*Kira* Miki was deployed two years prior to the start of the game. She did a few variety shows with a jazz band before going solo afterwards. Her legal name is Michelle Kingston. At some point *Kira* Miki got into a relationship with her producer, as they were both single and grew close due to spending a lot of time together. If the player gets her drunk, *Kira* Miki tells Jill that she feels she has lost her sense of self-identity. She says that "*Kira* Miki" was just an artist name, a role that she invested herself in but now she's so deep into the role that she doesn't remember what she was like before she became *Kira* Miki. However, in spite of that, *Kira* Miki feels that what she's doing is a noble duty. She feels that most people need to cling to something to deal with the stress and uncertainty of life and for many people, she's that thing. She feels that it's her duty to give them songs that will cheer them up and make their lives worth living. Therefore she feels that if the price of protecting the happiness of all those people is the sacrifice of her identity then it is well worth it.
*Kira* Miki first comes in on in on Day 2 after your break and immediately asks for Tea (You can buy Mulan Tea before Day 2's shift starts.) If you don't have tea then a Sunshine Cloud will work. Jill is initially confused about her name, but she will clarify she prefers *Kira* Miki and gets all of the people currently in the bar to join her in pronouncing it several times, even when they weren't actually in the conversation. Afterwards, she leaves the bar to perform at her concert. If you successfully give her Mulan Tea and get all her orders correct, she will give you tickets to her second concert later on in the game. This unlocks her ending and gets the player the "Listen to my song!" achievement. In the epilogue where Jill attends the concert, *Kira* Miki dedicates her opening song to Jill.
Ingram McDougal is a man who is generally ill tempered. He likes strong drinks.
Ingram is a man who appears to be of average height. His hair is a dark magenta, and is slicked back. He has four ear piercings that trail down the helix of his right ear. Ingram is seen wearing a magenta and white barred undershirt underneath an orange dress shirt, with a dark blue jacket on top.
Ingram is extremely brusque and ill tempered, almost always finding something negative to say about everything around him. Around Jamie, he loosens up, as he shares his love for strong drinks.
When Ingram's daughter was born, his wife ran away as it was too overwhelming for her. He does, however state that he had good memories with her, even though she "ended up being a bitch in the end". Four years before the beginning of the game, Ingram's daughter died. Every year since then he has hired Dorothy to roleplay as his own daughter.
His daughter died due to a White Knight hitting her to move her out of the way, causing her to hit her head on a wall and die. Infuriated, Ingram spent years paying for information regarding the man who killed his daughter. He eventually got his revenge, hiring someone to kill the man and bring him the White Knight's head.
Although he was able to find justice for his daughter, he remarks still feels empty inside, as evident to his constant vices to fill the hole with sex, booze and Dorothy. His mother in law and father in law have passed away before the start of the game.
Dorothy has short, red hair, red eyes and extremely pale (almost white) skin. Her fingers are robotic in appearance, with obvious divots separating each segment. Sei commented this is because her modded hands are designed to shoot Class-5 bullets from her fingertips. She is always seen wearing a dress with puffy sleeves and red stripes running along its otherwise white fabric. She also wears a patterned hairband in her hair and large red bow just below her neck.
Dorothy appears to have a bubbly, joyful and somewhat flirtatious attitude. She often greets every patron politely and doesn't at any point seem overly aggressive or violent. She takes great pride in her work, often discussing it with Jill and even Streaming-chan at one point. Her kind nature was also shown when she gave up an entire day's work to come visit Jill when she was feeling down, sleeping with her overnight in order to comfort her, all for enough money to "pay for [a] can of soda". Despite all this, however, on some occasions she experiences bouts of depression stemming from solipsism, a fear of being the only thing in existence, causing her to seemingly "space out" and lose her otherwise cheerful demeanour.
She also demonstrates odd habits at times, as shown when Alma is describing her method of hacking into a company's database, and she immediately goes into a trance, asking Alma to do her procedures, such as "creating a backdoor in her", or "making her buffer overflow." When asked about this, she explains that Alma's choice of words was a form of innuendo for Lilim and her words/behaviour were simply a result of that fact. Like all Lilim, Dorothy was also programmed with a random character quirk. In her case, she has an irrational fear of dogs and chinchillas. When she walked into the the bar while Rad Shiba was there, her response was to switch over from her usual over the top greeting to immediate screaming.
Whilst initially appearing quite short and feminine at a glance, Sei does, in fact, have an extremely muscular build due to her training as a White Knight. She has short blue hair in a bob haircut with short bangs above her nose, as well as blue eyes. After escaping from the Apollo Bank, she is left with rather severe injuries and wears bandages on her arms and head. She does recover relatively quickly, as she was almost completely recovered by the time *Kira* Miki's concert took place.
Sei is an extremely compassionate and kind individual, who is always seen to greet strangers kindly and very rarely complains. When Stella was being attacked by a rogue white knight when they were children, she attempted to save her despite the risk it posed and is represented as brave and altruistic when telling stories about her career as a White Knight. However, she is rather absent minded and carefree, leaving her helmet at VA-11 Hall-A the first time she visits it. Despite her bravery, however, she is not impervious to fear and was deeply traumatized by the events at the Apollo Bank, as seen with her conversation with Jill after the disaster took place.
Sei is born in a problematic family setting, her father is an abusive alcoholic and addicted to drugs.
Sei and Stella first met when Stella asked her father to take her to a "real kids park". The two formed a close bond and began to meet at the park regularly, until one day while they were there, a rogue White Knight took them hostage, on the run for undisclosed reasons. After being approached by the authorities, he began to gouge Stella's eye out and kicked Sei in the chest after she attempted to stop him, breaking several of her ribs and rupturing her organs, as well as knocking her out. Afterwards, Sei briefly regained consciousness to see the White Knight on the ground, not moving, whilst another had her slumped over his shoulder. He put his helmet on Stella's head and the two were quickly taken to the hospital. Sei was placed into emergency care due to the severity of her injuries and only woke up after Stella began punching her leg, telling her to do so. The two of them recovered eventually, but Stella's right eye had to be removed and replaced with a prosthetic one.
In Sei's youth when her mother tried to seek help for her husband, she received a beating before the authorities could apprehend him. This deeply scarred Sei and caused her to become diffident towards most people for a period of time. Later in her life, Sei had a drastic change of personality going from being unassuming and even violent to being kind and friendly to everyone. She decided to become a White Knight in order to help people in need.
During the events of the game, Sei was trapped for 3 days in the Apollo Bank without food or water. Escaping caused her severe injuries and after that, she quit the White Knights and started working as a bodyguard.
Stella appears to be a girl of average size with fair skin and red hair, styled into flashy drills. Although her breasts appear to be fairly average-sized for her height, Sei reveals that they're much larger than they appear, and she has no idea how she hides them so well. Her two most defining traits, however, are her prosthetic right eye and the cat-ear-like protrusions on her head. Her outfit consists of what appears to be a red bodycon dress and black opera gloves, as well as a golden cross necklace around her neck.
She often acts in a prideful manner, shown when initially meeting her, and when Sei isn't around. However, she's a kind person at heart, as shown during Mega-Christmas when she buys a large amount of gifts for the children of employees in her family’s company. She also hides her true feelings under her usual haughty demeanor, as evidenced when when Sei was heavily injured at the Apollo Bank incident. It is also evidenced in a more lighthearted manner when she often tries to hide her status as a fan of *Kira* Miki's music, as shown from her reaction upon seeing *Kira* Miki's signed glass.
Stella is self-conscious of her breast size, thinking them too big. To compensate for this, she somehow tucks them in to reduce their apparent size, in addition to adding the "drills" to her hair to distract from her chest. Even though she goes to such measures to hide her chest size, she doesn't want to go through a breast reduction procedure; according to Sei, her bust size represents a connection between Stella and Stella's mother, who is prideful of her chest and shows it off as a sign of confidence. She is also very sensitive about her prosthetic eye, sometimes reacting with shock at the mere mention of the word 'eye'.
Conceived by wealthy parents, before Stella was born she was diagnosed with Nanomachine Rejection, a potentially life-threatening disease. As such, she was forced to go through genetic treatment by doctors and become a Cat Boomer, called so because of the cat-ear-like protrusions which appear on the heads of those who receive treatment. She did survive because of this, and thus grew up in a rich environment where she received anything she asked for.
At age 5 she asked her father Sirius to take her to a "real kids park", where she met her soon to be best friend, Sei. He put his helmet over Stella's head and the two were quickly taken to the hospital. Sei was placed into emergency care due to the severity of her injuries and only woke up after Stella began punching her leg, telling her to do so. The two of them recovered eventually, but Stella's right eye had to be removed and replaced with a prosthetic one.
Virgilio is an overweight man with very pale skin and black, somewhat messy hair. He has green eyes and full lips. He is always seen wearing a black jacket and a white shirt with its top button undone, as well as a multi colored tie. His most prominent feature is the black question mark on his forehead. In Virgilio's ending, he wears orange sunglasses and his hair is completely slicked back.
Virgilio initially presents himself as a pompous buffoon, asking for drinks in a cryptic and unclear manner and being incredibly patronising to Jill in certain situations. This is, in fact, just a facade to draw attention away from himself, in order to have people dismiss him immediately as an idiot. In actuality, Virgilio is a brave and selfless man who came to the aid of Stella and Sei when they were in danger, despite having to kill his superior in the process and losing all credibility as a white knight.
Virgilio used to work as a White Knight. It's likely that he recognised Gillian because they met while Virgilio was a White Knight. One day, his superior took two girls, Stella and Sei, as a hostage when they were playing in the park. When the knight was cornered by authorities, he began to gouge Stella's eye out and kicked Sei in the chest, severely injuring her in the process. While being on duty, Virgilio attacked his superior. Virgilio was treated as a traitor and he was accused of being the one attacking kids and killing his superior before another unit subdued him. Virgilio later escaped their custody and was forced into hiding. Actual circumstances behind the incident were left unknown.
Presumably after he left the White Knights, Virgilio needed a job. One of his friends, the director of the Steampunk Museum employed Virgilio to work there (whether or not it's as a curator is not confirmed). Virgilio claimed he "stud[ied] everything that comes and keep[s the museum] clean for the people that visit the premises." He is at odds with the owner of the museum, saying that he should "stop touching the exhibits". Afterwards, Jill is sceptical if Virgilio is the curator, and instead comments that the owner "treats [Virgilio] like a janitor or something like that," to which Virgilio replied, "Exactly!". He probably was a janitor.
Stella and Sei managed to find Virgilio and thanked him for saving them when they were kids. To show their gratitude, the girls helped Virgilio to open the curry stand he dreamt of with the help of Stella's wealth. Stella and Sei become regulars on the stand and Jill describes his curry as delicious.
Betty has long dark hair, done up in a sort of ponytail on her right side, as well as brown eyes and fair skin. She is relatively tall with a modest bust. Her outfit consists of a black bodysuit underneath a purple long sleeve sweater and a white lab coat she wears off one shoulder.
Betty has a somewhat irritable personality and has been said to have a "kicking problem" by Deal. She is also incredibly attached to the Lilim, referring to him as "[her] piece o' scrap", and breaking down in tears when she thought he was going to be taken away from her.
She is a lesbian and has had numerous short-lived relationships with other women, usually ending them because of petty problems she has with her partner. Despite this, she feels she may be attracted to Deal, and asks Jill for advice about it. Betty also enjoys old romance novels and has an entire shelf dedicated to them at home. Although they are generally heterosexual, she claims that they're written in such a way that it is very easy to put yourself in the place of the protagonist. According to Deal, Betty has a harsh personality that not many people can stand, but that she's also a sweetheart underneath it. Betty usually softens up when drunk, and has been this way since at least her college days.
According to Betty, her grandfather loved his car more than any of his sons and left all his belongings to it in his will. Betty has had a life-long hatred of puns, stemming from when she was young. Everyone in her family had a penchant for making puns whenever possible, with the exception of her, who tried but was never able to. This made her feel stupid growing up, and when she finally "got" puns, she hated them for being so unfunny. When she was in high school Betty was charged with a minor sentence of petty vandalism for painting graffiti outside her school saying "Ms. Thompson's a cunt." Betty claims she did this because said Ms. Thompson was constantly humiliating her students and also constantly bullied two of Betty's classmates.
Betty fosters a dislike of cybernetic enhancements. This is due to her days of studying surgery at medical school when five of her classmates used shady means to try and get cybernetic enhancements for their hands. Although she managed to talk one of them out of it, two of them lost their hands, one of them became arthritic, and another died on the operating table. According to Jill, the man responsible for hooking them up was later caught, as was covered by a news story. Betty makes a distinction that she doesn't have a problem with cybernetic prostheses, only implants that drastically improve ability rather than serving as a replacement. She feels the same way about Lilim who needlessly upgrade their bodies.
Deal has extremely pale, white skin, a trait shared by all Lilim seen thus far, as well as completely black eyes with white irises. He is fairly short, and his neck appears to be in segments. He is always seen wearing a button up shirt and tie.
Deal is rather straight laced and matter of fact most of the time. He has an extreme love of dogs, Corgis in particular, meaning he greatly enjoys his work at the Seifar Toy Company. According to Betty, he sleeps with a Corgi plushie and has a wall dedicated to photos he's taken at the company.
Deal does not enjoy alcohol much and is not a big drinker.
Deal's specific make of Lilim is a DT-01d. Although a social development robot, DT-01d's are "work Lilim", designed for resilience. Although Deal never upgraded his muscles, he can easily withstand temperatures up to 200 degrees Celsius. The name of his adoptive guardian is Juergen.
Juergen apparently has a bad back and is reluctant to take medicine for it, claiming he's "not that weak". Although Deal passed his personality tests years ago he still lives with him.
Deal used to work in the department of the Artificial Intelligence Council that handled Lilim adoption for some time, meaning he has very detailed knowledge of the process.
One of Deal's neighbors has a dog that works at Seifar. This neighbor was the one who originally told him that the company was looking to hire humanoids. Deal now has the job mostly because the company legally has to have one humanoid on the payroll. He works as an "office boy", but with greater duties as he often has to perform jobs and functions that his employers are unable to complete because of their lack of thumbs.
Anna is an average height young woman with short black hair and purplish eyes, as well as fair skin and a fairly substantial bust size. She is always seen wearing a black Japanese sailor uniform that appears purple due to the bar's lighting. As shown from her shadow and her backstory, it is implied that she is still missing her right arm.
She is shown to be very mischievous, as shown when she was messing with Jill when Alma was visiting, making jabs at Alma's breasts, and even offering to raise her sweater. However, behind that, she is shown to be observant and considerate, shown in Dorothy's ending where she tells Jill to take care of 'Becky'.
Before the events of the game, Anna was suffering from nanomachine rejection. While she was in the hospital she got into a romantic relationship with Lanette, another female patient who was suffering from nanomachine rejection, but sadly her girlfriend did not survive her condition. Anna herself managed to recover from the affliction but on her way out of the hospital she was hit by a truck and died. It is not entirely clear how the current Anna came to be, although she's retained all her memories from before her death. At some point, she started coming to VA-11 Hall-A and teasing Jill, possibly because Jill is one of the few people who can fully see and hear her.
Donovan D. Dawson is the owner and CEO of The Augmented Eye, ex-employer of Kimberly La Vallette and a customer at VA-11 Hall-A.
Donovan is a tall man, with dark skin and a thick moustache. He has brown eyes and thick lips. He is always seen in the game wearing a button up shirt and tie with the top button undone.
Donovan has a very crude personality and is often one to speak his mind. He states that he cheats on his wife almost as much as she cheats on him, and when looking to hit on *Kira* Miki, asked Jill if she'd seen the "Big tittied lilim". Despite his crudeness, however, he appears to be an extremely intelligent man, owning and running The Augmented Eye, and perhaps more impressively, learned Cantonese in just 2 weeks, because he didn't want to be seen with his translator.
Donovan has been married at least twice and is still paying alimony on at least one. Years ago he went to Hong Kong to try to start a silicon business and was in the city during the Hong Kong riots.
Lexi is a friend of Dana's and a former member of the Neo-San Francisco police. In order for her to appear Jill needs to mix (not necessary to serve it) a Flaming Moai before Day 14.
Lexi is a pale skinned woman with a white bowl cut and dark eyes with similarly colored vertical stripe marks on her cheeks beneath each eye. She wears a bright red high collared jacket with pronounced shoulders, a white collared shirt, and a blue necktie.
Compared to Dana, Lexi is more straightforward and to the point. Dana also describes her as "too uptight", which is why their relationship didn't work for her. Lexi, on the other hand, couldn't handle Dana's personality.
About seven to eight years before the start of the game Lexi and Dana worked together on the NSFPD; Lexi as a member of the force and Dana as a collaborator.
Julian Thomas, otherwise known as TOMCAT, is a hacker who has been tracking the infamous Alice_Rabbit for fun who stops into VA-11 Hall-A during their search. They appear if you give Alma a Flaming Moai at any point before Day 16.
TOMCAT has an androgynous face with hair coloured purple on one side and blond on the other. They wear a loose fitting purple sleeveless top and are always seen smiling.
TOMCAT is whimsical and mischievous, deciding to track down the most notorious hackers in Glitch City because it seemed like fun. TOMCAT appreciates skilled hacking, both praising Alice_Rabbit for their ability to cover their tracks while at the same time criticizing them for being "sloppier" than their first few attacks.
TOMCAT is tracking Alice_Rabbit when they stumble into VA-11 Hall-A, apparently having temporarily lost the trail. When Jill asks for their name, TOMCAT says it's better if their name remains a mystery for the time being. Jill tries to check their name but the registry has been hacked so that TOMCAT can pay for their drinks while remaining anonymous.
TOMCAT explains why they're in Glitch City, saying that curiosity got the best of them after the massive leak of the White Knights' insider info made international news. When asked if they're working for someone, TOMCAT replies that, no, it's just for fun.
Jill and TOMCAT go on to discuss the identity and modus operandi of Alice_Rabbit. TOMCAT says that they doubt Alice_Rabbit is a group using the name as a symbol, as Alice_Rabbit's actions are too consistent. Therefore it's likely that Alice_Rabbit is either an individual or a group being lead by an individual. After awhile TOMCAT says they have to get going and tells Jill their name right before they leave.
Jess is a hybrid from Neo-San Francisco who briefly stops by VA-11 Hall-A on her way to a nearby mall. She appears if Stella is served a Flaming Moai at any point during the game.
Jess is a dark skinned girl with cat ears and shoulder length purple hair. Her bangs hide her eyes.
Jess appears at VA-11 Hall-A to order a drink on December 29. While there, she and Jill have a discussion about the difference between Cat Boomers and hybrids.
